Additional Insurance Tiers: Standard, Plus and Premium Explained

Cargosender's booking flow offers three selectable coverage tiers by name — here's what each ceiling actually is, sourced directly from the checkout, not a general claim.

Standard
€1,000 cover
Plus
€2,000 cover
Premium
€5,000 cover

Three Named Tiers, Verified Directly From the Booking Flow

During checkout, Cargosender's insurance step offers three selectable additional-cover tiers, named Standard, Plus and Premium, corresponding to coverage ceilings of €1,000, €2,000 and €5,000 respectively. These are the tier names and coverage amounts built into the booking flow itself — this page states only that structure, not a price, since the cost of each tier is calculated per shipment and shown at checkout, not published as a fixed figure.

This is a different question from what additional insurance excludes, or how it compares to declared value — see those two guides for that. This page is specifically about the three selectable tiers themselves and their coverage ceilings.

The Three Tiers

Standard — €1,000 ceiling

The lowest of the three selectable additional-cover ceilings.

Plus — €2,000 ceiling

The middle tier — also the point at which Cargosender's terms separately require any item valued above this to be reported in writing, regardless of which tier you pick.

Premium — €5,000 ceiling

The highest selectable ceiling — but the terms exclude individual items valued over €5,000 from cover entirely unless the carrier or insurance company explicitly confirms otherwise, so Premium does not mean unlimited cover for high-value items.

What Choosing a Tier Doesn't Override

⚠️

Additional insurance is contingent on the logistics provider's liability being established first — cover isn't automatic just because a tier was purchased.

⚠️

The exclusion list still applies regardless of tier: food, fragile items like glass and porcelain, high-value items generally, and sentimental-value items aren't covered by default under any of the three tiers.

⚠️

Items valued over €5,000 aren't covered at all unless the carrier or insurer explicitly confirms otherwise — Premium's €5,000 ceiling is a cap, not a guarantee that an item near that value will be accepted for cover.

⚠️

Anything valued above €2,000 must still be reported to Cargosender in writing before booking, a separate requirement from which tier you select.

Choosing Between the Three

💡

Match the tier to the item's actual value, not to the highest number available — Premium's €5,000 ceiling doesn't help if the item is worth €300 and falls into one of the excluded categories anyway.

💡

If the item is worth more than €2,000, the written-report requirement applies no matter which tier you choose — build that step into your booking regardless.

💡

Check the exclusions guide before assuming any tier covers your specific item — the categories excluded by default apply across all three.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the three additional insurance tiers called?

Standard, Plus and Premium, with coverage ceilings of €1,000, €2,000 and €5,000 respectively, as offered directly in Cargosender's booking flow.

Does Premium cover an item worth more than €5,000?

No — Cargosender's terms exclude individual items valued over €5,000 from cover entirely unless the carrier or insurance company explicitly confirms otherwise, regardless of tier.

How much does each tier cost?

This page doesn't state a price because the terms don't publish a fixed one — cost is calculated per shipment and shown during checkout.

Does picking Plus or Premium remove the exclusions on food, fragile items or sentimental items?

No — those exclusions apply by default across all three tiers, regardless of which one is selected.
